Color Choices
Color is always the first thing that catches the eye when a new page is opened up. That means the color combinations that you choose can make or break your chances of keeping that viewer’s attention on your company. Color selection should be professional and calm with only hints of bright color, otherwise you risk being overdone and scaring viewers away.
Make It Easy
User-friendly navigation is also of the utmost importance. People don’t want to fight to find the information or product they need, so if the website design you used for your small business does not make it easy for them to find what they need then they are likely to go away and onto the site of someone who will.

Next to color, there are two other elements that demand the attention of the eye — images and video. Just as with color, these two elements can be overdone. A single video in conjunction with a body of text invites a person to watch, whereas three or more videos stacked without something to break them up can become too overwhelming. The same is true of pictures. Use this element only where it fits and choose photos that you have the legal right to display and that will work in conjunction with your theme.
Create Great Content
While colors and images will get them looking, it is ultimately the written content of a website that will keep people there. So, give them something to read that isn’t plain self-promotion. Make your content interesting and relevant. Share information about yourself and the company, but also include interesting industry information. You might even consider including a regular blog.
Host a Contest
Contests are always great ways to draw in viewers and keep them there while they read about the guidelines, entry dates, and so on. Entering one will also keep them coming back, as they will want to know who was named winner. Try to keep contests related to your area of business.
